THE INVID MATRIX

Invid Matrix? That's right. The explanation below is a report filed by Scott Bernard after the battle at Reflex Point. There have been a few people to ever see inside an Invid Hive, Scott Bernard, Lancer, Lunk, Annie, Rand, and Rook. These are the only known people on the Earth to visit a hive and live to tell the tale. All this information on hives in the Invid Invasion book is design specifications given to the freedom fighters by Sera.
The Matrix is what gives the invid their life. If even one of the invid is killed it depletes the power of the invid life force. The Matrix is one difficult concept to understand especially since Sera had a hard time explaining it to Lancer and company. The information below is for GM eyes only. Players you may not want to read the section below in order to keep the excitement level high in the game.

GM Notes:
The invid matrix is the life force used by the Regis and/or Igna to create all invid, their mecha, and gives the Regis/Igna their powers. Igna, the Regis and the Regent are the living embodiment of the invid as well as the protoculture life force. Protoculture is not only the plant that breeds life in the invid and their mecha, but is the source of the invids powers, such as the psionics for one.

Igna, the Regis and the Regent have their own Matrix in which to draw power from.

The invid have a link to this plant that is beyond any human comprehension. It is how the invid are linked to each other and their protector whether it be an invid brain or the Regis herself. This binds them together into the massive race that they have evolved into today. No one outside of the invid brains, Igna, the Regis, and the Regent have the full understanding on how the matrix works. Not to mention how to create a matrix for the invid to feed off of while the protector has left the hive, so to speak.
The invid are not just their physical appearance. Their link with protoculture over the eons has created a new form of power. This power is the invid matrix. The matrix itself harnesses the power for the Regis/Igna and all of the invid. There are different levels of power in the matrix Low Level, High Level, and Ultimate Level.
Obviously if the Regis, Igna, and the Regent can create mecha out of thin air. It is a far gone conclusion that they can design bigger and better mecha. Even though all of this information is not known amongst the general population. There are a few who do. The actual internal working of the matrix is unknown for now (actually, we the writers know, but in order for the players to have a complete ignorance, we left it out). The internal working of this matrix will come out in one of the upcoming books.
The total power of the matrix is based on how many invid there are. Inorganics do not add to the power of the matrix, even though they are using protoculture. Inorganics are not living beings, they are considered robots. the matrix has to be at a certain level before creation or psionics can be used. Each invid active, in stasis, and in the genesis pits, adds points to the matrix. Granted it does take points to create an invid at the various stages, but they add points to the matrix. Listed below is how this works.

If the invid are used to create something non-invid multiply both the creation points and the added points to the matrix by 5. In the Regent's case the invid very rarely evolve into something different than they already are. Keep in mind that the invid evolved before the Regent became a hate filled tyrant bent on the domination of the cosmos.
Special Note: If you do not wish to use the matrix system then the other ways are listed in the Invid Invasion and The Sentinels. We suggest that you acquire these books in order to effectively use the invid in their proper form.
